History and Development

The institute was founded by the sixth Dean of the Department of Philosophy, Professor Li Chien-Chiu in 1990, under the sponsorship of the Advisory Office of the Minister of Education (NT$1,000,000). It was originally located in LI310 at the department of Philosophy of Fu Jen Catholic University, which was a former typewriting classroom.
The then President of FJCU, Archbishop Stanislaus Lokuang, announced the official name of the institute as the INSTITUTE OF SCHOLASTIC PHILOSOPHY (ISP) in 1991. In 2000, under the approval of the university committee meeting, the institute was officially subordinated to the College of Liberal Arts as a research center.
In 2008, ISP and the other four institutes were incorporated into Fu Jen Academia Catholica. ISP has continued to promote scholastic studies, research, and dialogue between scholastic philosophy and Chinese culture in order to advocate the catholic spirit of the university.
